ABSTRACT
Introduction: Human papillomavirus infection is the most common sexually transmitted infection in humans, and it is estimated that 80% of sexually active adults will acquire a genital tract infection from this virus, whose usual clinical manifestation is anogenital warts.
Objective: To characterize patients diagnosed with perianal warty lesions.
Methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted with 64 patients with a clinical and anatomopathological diagnosis of perianal warts, treated at the coloproctology service of the Comandante Manuel Fajardo University Surgical Hospital in Havana. The variables studied were age, sex, symptoms and signs, macroscopic characteristics of the lesions, risk factors, and pathological diagnosis.
Results: The majority of those affected were male (70.31%) and in the 30-39 age group
(40.62%). The most frequent symptoms were skin abrasions (78.12%) and local irritation (75%). Among the associated risk factors was unprotected anal intercourse (70.31%). Multiple lesions predominated (76.57%), 45.32% of which were found in both locations and were less than 1 cm in size (67.18%). 71.88% were found to be condylomatosis, and more than 50% of patients had some degree of dysplasia.
Conclusions: Perianal warty lesions have increased in recent decades, especially in patients with HIV infection, which is why early diagnosis and prevention campaigns for sexually transmitted infections are being implemented.
