Effectiveness of Sclerotherapy Treatment in Grade I-II Hemorrhoids

Introduction: Hemorrhoid disease is the most common proctologic disease with a prevalence of 4.4-36.4%, so it is estimated that more than 50 % of people over 50 may have some problem related to it and about 90% of the world's population will suffer from the disease at least once in their lifetime, of which only 10 % will require surgical treatment.
Objective: To determine the effectiveness of treatment with 3% polidocanol sclerotherapy in grade I-II hemorrhoid disease.
Methods: A descriptive, observational study without a control group was conducted with patients diagnosed with grade I and II hemorrhoids during the period between March 2021 and September 2023. The universe consisted of 56 patients seen in the coloproctology clinic with a diagnosis of hemorrhoids, and the sample consisted of 40 patients who underwent treatment with 3% polidocanol sclerotherapy.
Results: There was a predominance patients aged 40-59 years (52.5 %), male (57.5 %) and with grade I hemorrhoids (72.5 %); 90.0 % of patients had no complications and
the majority of them had no recurrence (80.0 %).
Conclusions: Treatment with polidocanol sclerotherapy in grade I-II hemorrhoid disease is effective in controlling symptoms and has a low complication rate.
