Rectovaginal Fistula Treated Under Local Infiltration Anesthesia
Keywords:
rectovaginal fistula; outpatient surgery; local infiltration anesthesiaAbstract
Introduction: A rectovaginal fistula is an abnormal connection between the anorectal region and the vagina via a tract, causing significant discomfort in affected patients.
Objective: To present the results of a patient diagnosed with a rectovaginal fistula who underwent outpatient surgery under local infiltration anesthesia.
Case Presentation: A 28-year-old patient with no significant medical history presented for consultation with a diagnosis of a rectovaginal fistula secondary to surgery for Bartholin’s gland inflammation. Following the preoperative examination, outpatient surgery was performed under local infiltration anesthesia, with weekly follow-up visits during the first month and final discharge ten weeks post-surgery.
Conclusions: A rectovaginal fistula can cause a series of complications, including fecal leakage through the vagina and infections, which significantly impact patients’ quality of life; however, with an accurate diagnosis and effective surgical treatment, this condition can be successfully resolved.
