Introduction: For initial stages of lung cancer, surgery continues to be the treatment of choice, whether by conventional, videothoracoscopic or robotic means. The last two by means of one or several ports.
Objective: To describe the outcomes of the uniportal videothoracoscopic approach to lung cancer.
Methods: An observational, descriptive, longitudinal retrospective study was conducted in the splanchnic surgery service of Instituto de Oncología y Radiobiología in the period from 2016 to 2019. Work was done with a universe of 81 patients diagnosed with lung cancer and operated on by uniportal thoracoscopy.
Results: Females predominated (54 %), together with the age group 61-80 years (81.5 %). Conversion was required in 23.4 % of cases, which decreased as the learning curve increased. The morbidity rate was 15 % and there was no operative mortality. The mean overall disease-free interval was 37.4 months, survival at 1 year was 96.3 % and 91.4 % at 3 years.
Conclusions: In the studied series, with the use uniportal thoracoscopic sugery.
good short- and mid-term outcomes are obtained in the surgical treatment of lung cancer when compared to multiport and conventional approaches.
