Introduction: Open abdomen by the Bogota bag is a surgical technique developed for the treatment of the patient with generalized peritonitis and used for the prevention and treatment of abdominal compartment syndrome.
Objective: To describe a patient with secondary peritonitis of gynecologic etiology due to ruptured left tubal-ovarian abscess in whom a Bogotá bag was placed as a variant of open abdomen.
Clinical case: The case is presented of a 41-year-old female patient of white skin color with generalized peritonitis of gynecological etiology due to ruptured left tubal-ovarian abscess plus septic shock treated with modified Bogotá bag laparostomy after the first laparotomy, and who finally had a subsequent favorable evolution with resolution of the infectious picture and subsequent discharge.
Conclusions: The use of the Bogota bag technique is a safe alternative for the management of the open abdomen to avoid abdominal compartment syndrome by achieving infection control.
